How to prevent injury

Regular exercise

This can help to reduce joint pain. Walking is a much understated form of exercise. Try a brisk 20 minute walk several times per week or swimming. Please check with your doctor before you start an exercise programme.

Start exercising gradually and build up slowly. Too much exercise, especially if it jars the joints can have detrimental effects on the joints and may lead to arthritis. If it hurts, stop. Pain is a warning sign that something is wrong. Seek help immediately, from your osteopath before continuing your exercise programme.

Protect your joints

Wear well cushioned shoes to reduce the impact on your joints.

Pilates

Join a beginners Pilates or core stability class to strengthen the spine and stretch the joints.
